HMC NEWS: Hamilton PR firm finalist at international awards

Hamilton PR firm finalist at international awards

Hamilton-based public relations firm, HMC Communications, was named one of 10 finalists in the 2016 COMM PRIX Awards. The awards recognise the best public relations campaigns in the world and other finalists include PR professionals from Italy, Kenya, Australia, Singapore, Finland and one other from New Zealand.

The finalist nomination relates to HMC Communications and its client, Child Matters, work on Buddy Day. Buddy Day is New Zealand's only child abuse prevention awareness day, which occurs on the second Friday of November. It began in Hamilton in 2011 and was held in five regions across the North Island in 2015.

"It's incredibly exciting to be named a finalist in these prestigious international awards. But it's most rewarding for our team and our client, Child Matters, to be recognised for a campaign that is focussed on changing the attitudes and actions of adults around the subject of child abuse.

"Buddy Day has given us the opportunity to use creative and strategic communications in a way that, at the end of the day, is creating safer environments for New Zealand children. Developing the campaign concept for Child Matters and seeing the event grow year-on-year has been an exceptionally rewarding," said HMC Communications Director Heather Claycomb.

Mrs Claycomb attended the awards celebration in Toronto, Canada on 31 May. Australian research-based company, Bayer, was named supreme winner of the awards for its 'Ambition 2015' project.

Ambition 2015 was launched three years ago, and focused on three stretch goals: becoming an employer of choice, being a recognised innovation leader and growing the company to $1 billion plus in sales.
