Hill Laboratories acquires water quality monitoring software Hilltop

Hill Laboratories has acquired New Zealand-based environmental management software Hilltop, used around the country as a water quality monitoring tool.

Hilltop is used by most regional councils around New Zealand, as well as electricity generators and environmental consultants, to manage data related to water quality and quantity.

CEO of Hill Laboratories, Dr Jonno Hill, says that the acquisition of Hilltop demonstrates the importance the company places on the water quality monitoring market.

“With over thirty years of experience in the New Zealand water testing industry as the largest laboratory in the field, we’re delighted to expand our services to this important market,” says Hill.

“The Hilltop software is heavily relied upon by many of our clients and key organisations around New Zealand, so we’re looking forward to engaging more closely with users to better understand how they utilise the software, and to work with them to improve it over time.

“We will ensure the Hilltop software continues to work effectively for existing customers, and we’ll be looking at what new functionality and design features we can introduce to keep up with ever-changing needs and opportunities.”

According to Hill Laboratories’ Market Sector Manager Environmental Dr Jane Sherrard, organisations undertaking monitoring and management of water throughout New Zealand need a reliable, easy-to-use resource to track water quantity and quality. This allows them to understand how much water is moving through a system, and to monitor the quality of that water.

“As an integral part of environmental data management systems, Hilltop can manage data, compute statistics and present the results. This means councils, hydroelectric energy generators, and others can closely monitor hydrology information around water flow and quality over the long term, and accurately guide future environmental decision making.

“By acquiring Hilltop, Hill Laboratories can ensure the software’s users have access to this reliable and accurate resource for many years to come.”

The Hilltop acquisition also means Hill Laboratories can add an additional software product to their expanding portfolio of digital tools, alongside their laboratory testing services.

Dr Hill adds that, “current and future Hilltop clients will be able to take advantage of our strong customer service and digital capabilities.”

The acquisition will be finalised on 31 August 2020.
