More than $11,000 raised for chopper at KCE fundraiser
More than 200 members of the Taumarunui community rallied together to raise a whopping $11,200 for the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter last night (Thursday 13 October).
The money was raised at a quiz night and auction fundraising event hosted by local electricity retailer King Country Energy (KCE) at the Taumarunui Cosmopolitan Club.
KCE community relations manager Helen Peacock said 38 teams purchased tickets to the event to take part in the quiz and bid on auction items.
"More than 30 donated auction items, including a helicopter trip for three people, Chiefs and Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic tickets, and 14KG of premium scotch fillet were taken home by very happy bidders.
"We are sincerely grateful to the big-hearted companies that donated auction items. This event could also never happen without the support of the cosmopolitan club for hosting the event, and all the volunteers who made the night possible, including our quiz master, auctioneers, sound technician, and KCE staff.
"The evening was a fantastic community night of fun, laughs and goodwill. The total raised from ticket sales and auction items exceeded our expectations. We're so proud of this community's generosity.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter, which services the Waikato and King Country Region.
"It really is extraordinary how many King Country lives have been saved across the years thanks to the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter. In the first six months of 2016 alone the service transported 311 patients.
"We're so thrilled with how many Taumarunui residents came to show communal support for the service at our quiz night and auction fundraiser. This community is truly fun and generous."
The Rotary Club of Taumarunui gifted $1000 to the Chopper on the night, contributing to the $11,200 total.
KCE is proud to be an associate sponsor of the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter. The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter service was founded in 1987 and has touched the lives of almost 10,000 people since its inception.
